So in my last post I basically trashed everyone who wore a designer label from top to toe. I also mentioned there are no rules in fashion. Hence I here contradict myself by basically being dressed in Ralph Lauren from top to toe. The key to being able to do that is in in how you do it. Is it to show off? To show you actually afford something a tad more expensive? Well, in that case you’re still out on thin ice.
If you instead, just like me, find it that this combination is perfect for a stroll on the beach, THAT is a completely different matter. Starting off with a simple, but my version of elegant, look containing nothing more than khaki shorts, sneakers and a blue shirt you’ll make a sober yet stylish impression. When it gets a tad colder you’ll just put that warming jumper on which finishes the look and basically makes you fit for the beach side restaurant or wherever you’re heading next. Some might argue that shorts aren’t suitable for restaurants and I might agree, but if there’s one thing I know about etiquette it is:
As long as you know the rules and know what etiquette actually and truly is, you’re allowed to break them.
With that said, f*ck conventions! If you won’t be let into a restaurant wearing shorts, well, then it’s the restaurant’s loss, not your. Besides, rules are meant to be bent, if not broken. And that, my friends, is something that works both ways. Be kind, gentle, receptive & most important of all – act with dignity – and the world smiles back at you. If not, well, Karma bites back. The point is, dress in and wear whatever you want, as long as you feel comfortable and good looking in it.
