Today I’m back in Stockholm to attend some events, catch up with friends and family, but the main reason for my visit is Fashion Week Stockholm which begins on Sunday (odd day if you ask me). To see what’s going on behind the scenes you can check my Instastories and I’ll eventually do a recap of what Stockholm has to offer. When it comes to fashion, Sweden has a lot to offer, although our best known brands (such as ACNE Studios) haven’t shown any collections here since I don’t know when and H&M, Filippa K, CMMN, among other brands aren’t showing here either. But there are numerous up and coming as well as established brands whose shows I’m looking forward to!
Coming back to Stockholm Fashion Week is somewhat of a milestone in my personal life. 10 years ago when I worked as a fashion editor and later on with PR I used to frequent these shows and always had front row seats. The reasons why it’s a huge personal achievement to be back where it all began can be read in this post where I talk about my life during the last 8 years or so and despite having been to fashion weeks in both Paris and London after getting sober and will do the Big Four (London, Milan, Paris & New York) in the summer this is the most important one to me on a personal level.
Of course I’ll wear as much Swedish design as possible during fashion week and this outfit featuring all the colors I already snapped up during LFWM (greens, pastels, orange) from KHND Studios is one of them. I’m proud to be wearing their stuff as they’re not as known in Sweden as they are abroad, despite their Swedish origin. We actually have a saying in Sweden (well not really a saying, more of a statement) which goes “You got to be make it big abroad first to be able to make it big in Sweden”. I guess that applies to both KHND and me. This way I feel we’re both going back to our roots.
I also realized this is probably the first photo shoot with some of Stockholm in the background. The city is basically built on islands and surrounded by water. A reference to “Venice of the North” is often used and is correct if you want my opinion, although some Dutch people might argue with me about that. The building behind me in the last two pics is the City Hall where the Nobel Prize Banquet is held every year with all the Nobel Laureates and other prominent guests. Somehow I went from fashion week talk to being the ultimate tourist in my home town. With that said, I’ll leave you with the comfort of my Instagram (@thomasfalkenstedt) and all the coverage I will put up there in my Instastories. (And just because I know some people, like my dad (sorry dad), don’t know what that is, it’s the round icon with people’s names on it on the top of your Instagram. Welcome to discover a part of Instagram if you already weren’t aware of this fact) 🙂
