Pray for Stockholm

Pray for Stockholm

Fashion, Life itself

It’s been a while since I last posted, but there’s been so much going on with my move to Stockholm, attending press week and settling down in my beloved city. This post was going to be about all the good things that have happened during the week I’ve been back home and how happy I am. However, on Friday everything took an, unfortunately not, unexpected turn. On Friday April 7th terrorists attacked the thing I love the most in this world. Stockholm. My city. My home.

When I say it wasn’t unexpected, it most certainly was not. What makes Sweden different from for example France, Great Britain and America however is the fact that we are not actively taking part of any ongoing war. We have a small troop stationed in Northern Iraq, but the reasons for this attack were not related to that. The reasons behind this attack were purely based on hatred. A hatred hard to comprehend, but so tangible when it happens in your own backyard.
For someone who loves life, people and this city in particular, it is hard comprehend what can make someone drive a van into a large gathering of people. Thankfully this attack “only” resulted in 4 casualties so far. The numbers are irrelevant. That is 4 people too many. I’ve seen this so many times before. I remember the attacks in Madrid and in the London Underground, not to mention 9/11. I’ve been glued to the TV so many times along the years and my heart has been aching every time. What I haven’t seen is this happening in my beloved Stockholm. Now I’ve witnessed tens of thousands of people walking home from an attacked city. I also have never felt so much love and unity in my city. Stockholm responded to the hatred by coming together, helping each other and by showing love to thy neighbor. Today a huge manifestation took place which gathered the largest amount of Swedes to this date. A manifestation of love.
How do you fight hatred? With love! There is no way of getting rid of all the hatred in the world, but as humans we can fight back. We can fight homophobia in Russia with love, we can fight religious fundamentalists with love. They want to scare us. WE ARE NOT SCARED. The only thing that this has resulted in is that we are even stronger than before. We don’t know what happens tomorrow. All we know is we are alive. Right now. Let’s use that time to love and be loved. Best part of it all, love is free and love has no gender, religion nor ethnicity.

Love also comes from higher powers. If you cannot define what your higher power is, you can begin by believing you are your higher power. It’s no secret my higher power is God. He has got me through more hardships than I can count. Whatever or whoever your higher power is, find it and listen to it.

As I was walking to the grocery store, this sign was left outside a flower shop. Translated it says “On your way to Drottninggatan (the site of the terrorist attack)? Take a flower and lay it down to honor the memory of the dead. Take care of each other!” When our Crown Princess Victoria visited the site earlier she got the question how we will get through this. With tears in her eyes she answered: “Together!” We are one. Stockholm survives and thrives. Nothing can break this modern, vibrant and tolerant city and the people who live in it and visit it. We are not not blinded by primitive hate, instead we embrace the world and welcome everyone to this sanctuary of hope. We love.

It is really sad. And what happens in Russia as well… But i agree…. love is free and love has no gender, religion nor ethnicity.
    Take care!

I totally agree! Humanity is resilient and I believe that hatred can always be overcome with love. So sorry to hear about the attack on your home. It’s interesting to hear that Sweden was a target when their involvement in overseas wars is minimal. But it’s just really hard to comprehend why anyone would intentionally harm innocent civilians for any reason.

I am sorry to hear about the attacks but unfortunately there are things in the world that we cannot control. As you mentioned it’s all about fighting back with love so I’m glad you have this mindset. I know Sweden is beautiful and I will visit one day!

Sweden in my thoughts and prayers. It always amazes me to think that we all live in the same world and some people are just full of hatred. As long as we stand together, love is a powerful force that can overcome any amount of hatred. You can NEVER go wrong coming from a place of love. Great photos, love the minimal style, your military jacket is very appropriate with your post, as if saying, ‘we are fighting back with love!!’. xx C.

I can’t begin to express my extreme emotion upon hearing that you were in the midst of this on Friday. I was casually skimming over messages while teaching k/ blogging / eating lunch … and so on when I heard . Thank the Lord you are ok . Those poor families involved. Truly and utterly heartbreaking.
It’s true what you said . Only Love can stop this . We all have to constantly move forward and not lose this. We must never lose this notion of love conquering all…
Thank you so much for being that hope , that change , that positive force the world needs.
    Love Always,
    Your Jenny
You look extremely fabulous in the camo jacket and I hope I win the bracelet.

I’m heartbroken to hear that this happened in your hometown, let alone in general. I’m so sorry your city has had to go through such tragedy, but I’m so encouraged to know that you’re all banding together in love and unity. It’s so important to have that in these horrible times. Praying for you and for Stockholm!

I’ve been so mega busy and have had limited internet connection that I didn’t even know about the terrorist attack! I am so sorry to hear that as I know that when our hometown gets attacked, we mourn for the lost. My heart ached so back when I learned about this tragic attack to one of my favorite cities last Friday and is still aching. I am terribly sorry for what happened to beautiful Stockholm! Unfortunately today’s world is filled with hatred and you are right about all we can do is to use love and kindness to conquer the fear and hatred! It is also so touching to learn that the unity and love Swedes have shown each other today – what a beautiful nation Sweden is. God bless Stockholm!

I am so saddened by what happened in your city. It really hurts watching the news; there’s rarely anything good on there. It’s terrible how much hate exists in the world. I can’t imagine hurting a cold-hearted person, much less plowing a car into people I don’t know. Though I am sad that a few people got killed, I am thankful you are okay and I will continue praying for your country and this world. I agree, listening to our higher power will definitely get us through life’s toughest situations and God has brought me through more than I ever thought possible. It’s so nice reading others’ positive energy like yours. Makes me feel better about a future of more love than we have today. On another note, I’m loving this look! You know camouflage jackets are my fave <3

I’m so sorry to hear about the attacks in your home town. This is so sad. I will never understand why people think hatred is the answer to anything. Love conquers all. Let’s keep spreading love through our blogs. Positive energy is contagious!

We just need to love each other more with the love God has shown us. It’s such a terrible, fallen world, but if one person can show kindness, compassion and love, hopefully it can spread. It only takes one to make the difference and I know that you are always spreading love wherever you go. I pray for your country and for peace and providence to those who 4 people and their families who were directly affected by the terror attack.

It’s so awful what’s happening in the world. People being scared to go out, always in your mind that there might happen something. Looking around you, trying to see if there’s someone odd who might drop a bomb. It’s ridiculous, but it’s happening. Awfull that it also happened to your city…

It is both disheartening and disturbing to constantly read about such attacks and crimes all across the world! Why do people not understand that they cannot achieve anything by war and such heinous acts, why kill innocent people for their selfish motives. So sorry to hear that this happened in your hometown, Thomas! Hope things get better, sending you and your town lots of positive vibes and good thoughts.

I never thought that I would have to read about a city like Stockholm being under an attack. It is so so wrong, that it does break my heart. You have worded this so beautifully, I am so sorry to you and your community but obviously very happy to hear of how they have come together as a community to share that love and peace. Little gestures, the flowers and I am sure there are many others like it, make such a significant difference. Sending the love right back to you and your city Thomas.

My heart goes out to the people of Stockholm, the loved ones of those four casualties, and anyone else affected by such a horrible tragedy. It makes me so sad and disheartened that terrorist attacks, or any attack in general is formulated through hatred. I really hope that everyone can just love more. The sign that you ran into seriously has such a strong message that I hope will push people to be more active in standing together, caring for each other, and ultimately spreading love.
