[:en]It’s been hectic. Very hectic. It feels like that’s the way my life has been lately and don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy it, but the truth is, moving, starting my own business, running my own business and actually making my living out of it has taken its toll on me. It makes me want to jump on the next plane to an isolated island and just stay there forever. Knowing me though I’d be restless in less than two days and would want to get off that island asap, but the thought of a getaway is constantly in the back of my mind.
What sparked this thought is the backdrop of this photo shoot. A full rigged steel ship from 1888 called af Chapman. For those of you visiting Stockholm I can tell you it nowadays serves as a youth hostel with a lovely view over the Old Town and the Royal Castle. Priceworthy and an amazing location.
There’s also a much needed simplicity in my everyday life to minimize the hectic elements. I need to dress simple, cook simple and make my life as stress free as can be at this given point of time. That’s where a naval inspirired denim-on-denim look from Cubus comes in handy. They have great staple pieces for your wardrobe and just like I mentioned IKEA in my last post, you need to pick out the godies of their collection and it’ll create a great basic outfit without much effort.
It’s sometimes hard to explain how much work that goes into what I’m doing. When I mention that I’m going to fashion weeks for men in London, Florence, Milan, Paris and New York this summer, everyone is excited and saying they’re so envious. For sure, it’s going to be one heck of a ride and I’ll enjoy every second of it, but both planning the logistics of the fashion weeks as well actually doing them is an everyday headache until they’re over and done with. I look forward to them immensely, but realized London is merely five weeks away and that starts a non-stop circus that won’t end until 16th of July.
After all that I most certainly will need a getaway. On my own. To a remote place (note, I didn’t say distant). All by myself. Winding down. I’ve been thinking of Santorini or Mykonos in Greece or even Fiji, but haven’t really decided on where to go yet. Please feel free to hit me up with suggestions in the comments of places where your mind and body can rest, but preferably getting a tan while doing it (I mean, I can go see the northern lights in the winter…).

May 4, 2017 at 12:19 pmDefinitely behind a prepared boy like you is a big mom. I would love to see you together on some photos. So many people underneath the amount of work that is to be done as bloggers. Your outfit had a beautiful denim look, I like your photos as usual, and even the white shirt has a nice line. However, simplifying life is always better than complicating it 🙂

May 4, 2017 at 3:58 pmDouble denim can be a tricky trend to pull off, but when it’s done correctly it can be one of the most flattering and stylish menswear staples you can wear. So i think you have done it right! Your look is absolutely great!!!

May 4, 2017 at 7:48 pmHello dear Thomas, I know what you mean! I couldn’t bear that kind of stress all year round, that’s why I’m not a full time blogger. Fashion week are as much exciting as exhausting. But I’m sure you’re going to do great. It’s a good idea starting to plan a chill-out getaway! If it’s in August you may know that all Greek islands will be terribly crowded. Santorini in September must be magical! I love your denim on denim look! You make basic items look luscious, that’s a huge talent. And you look so young and fresh! Please keep smiling, and happy belated bday to your mom! Love, Valeria

My life has been pretty hectic too, trying to decide whether to stop being a wuss, quit my job and go full time blogging and the whole process of relocating to another state. Trust me, I feel you and I also need a getaway very soon. Things can get very hectic for us at times and very few people can relate to that. I’m thinking a trip to somewhere tropical would be good for you. Lots of sunshine 🙂

May 6, 2017 at 12:37 amI definitely get the madness of fashion month. Going to multiple weeks in one season is killer and even though it’s great (sometimes, not all the time) to be at a fashion week, it’s super draining! The urge to fail away is not one that you alone have and I definitely suggest Santorini! I’ve heard great things about it, or maybe look at the Seychelles, Mauritius, or the Maldives! A beach is a much-needed stop before AND after fashion season, so I hope you find a good one!

May 6, 2017 at 4:03 amThat makes two of us, Thomas! I totally understand where you are coming from when you said you want to sail away from your hectic daily life. I could totally draw similarities to your mind that you have urges to get off from the islands after a day or two. Guess that’s the weakness of the workaholics. I’m actually on a vacation in the States, but instead of filling my days with sightseeings and parties, most of my days are filled with work related meetings and doing workings on my laptop. I guess dress minimal and simple really helps with easing the mind or take a chunk of the burdens away. I should totally rock in my shorts and flip flops tomorrow (joking). I hope all things will eventually work out for you, and you should totally take a staycation somewhere, where you can easily return to work if anything happens and still be able to relax for a bit.

May 6, 2017 at 1:00 pmDear ( My) Tommy,
This has been such a wonderful way to relax for a while today. I finally had the time to sit down and properly read this post although I’ve been intrigued for the past couple of days. I could totally relate when you posted that “sail away” caption and was completely overjoyed to see that the next one was a smile. I actually can relate to that too! I had a serious issue at work Thursday that by a miracle took a 360 turn. I’m glad we are both at a little bit of peace. Ok !!!
Love the backdrop !!!! Need to visit !! I especially adore this denim on denim look from Cubus Official ! So classic yet fresh and new ! Can’t wait to hear and see more ! I’m going to take a closer look at Cubus for Jim! I agree with Jen about seeing a post with your lovely mom !!!

May 6, 2017 at 4:21 pmI totally get you. Life is so hectic isn’t it? Even if you aren’t a blogger, there are so many things that go into our daily lives. But as a blogger, I can empathize where you are coming from too. It’s like a secret club that only we know how much time and effort goes into everything we do. And like you said, it’s fun and exciting, but it is truly a lot of coordination and time and planning. I am excited to hear about London FW from your perspective soon. Try and enjoy the moments too as you bustle around from show to show. Mykonos sounds amazing. Greece is definitely on my list of places to visit sometime soon. What about Iceland? Not for a tan, but it’s gorgeous there from what I’ve seen. I am all about denim and this denim on denim look speaks to me! Love the crisp white you paired with it as well! xoxo, Christine

May 8, 2017 at 2:01 pmIt did read like a bit of a status update. I was wondering how you were doing as you get stuck into your new life. It comes with unforseen challenges, but at the end of the day I think we wouldn’t have it any other way. Planning for Fashion weeks is seriously time consuming and stressful. The Sydney one is next week and I am only just reminded of all the time I spent this time last year getting all ready for it, planning outfits, getting them sent to me in time, having to find the right shoes/ bags/ scarves etc etc. Only to get there and have it be FAR warmer than I had planned so I had no need for about half of my cold weather looks. Lucky I was able to loan some looks last minute halfway through the week!
All the best settling in.
And by the way, Perth, where I live is the most isolated city in the world. It’s beautiful too!

May 8, 2017 at 8:35 pmThomas, it’s so true what you say about people not realizing just how much work goes into what you do. On the outside, people just see all the glitz and glamor that comes with blogging. All the events you get to go to, traveling you get to do, and clothing you get gifted. What people don’t realize is how much work goes not only into each post, but into taking and editing photos, coming up with original content, maintaining consistency, and just always being on top of things. Even the travel (although fun) can be exhausting. You are doing such an amazing job though, just try to keep that in mind when it feels a little overbearing.. Your work is worth it!

May 9, 2017 at 5:01 amThis is the perfect Denim on Denim look and I am totally obsessed with your jeans. You are looking so cool, calm and collected in the photos. But I can only imagine how hectic things truly would be for you. I think as bloggers we make life seem so perfect in pictures, but only we know what we are truly going through. And being your own boss and trying to constantly motivate yourselves also isn’t easy. Going to Fashion Week is a dream come true, it will be so amazing and I’m looking forward to your pictures :). But If I were you I could definitely sneak in a quick break before the madness of Fashion Week. I always escape to Thailand because it’s so close by, but Mykonos sounds so amazing too. May 9, 2017 at 5:03 amLove that you ended this post with a smile. Most people can’t grasp how much work blogging and having your own business is! May 10, 2017 at 7:07 amI can totally feel you that running your own business (presumably as a full time blogger) is incredibly stressful. It is everything you are and everything you own creatively. There once was a time when I thought I would be able to make my blog a business, but I live in LA, the space is so crowded and competitive, everyday there is a new blog popping up by some young, hot thing. Now I think I just try to have fun and be creative and just enjoy blogging again. On another note, love the simplicity of a white shirt plus denim look, it is always a classic and classy look, what a great story for the boat backdrop.

May 10, 2017 at 7:25 amI totally think after the circus of working fashion month you should treat yourself to some exotic location to recharge. It is so important to look after and reward yourself especially when you are running your own business!

May 10, 2017 at 10:54 amI think we all need to escape every now and then. And wait, that boat is a youth hostel? So cool! Sounds like life is busy and whenever I feel overwhelmed I just tell myself it’s better than nothing going on. Love all those denim vibes – very cool and casual. And lastly, sound like you have an amazing mom – happy birthday and mother’s day to her 🙂

May 10, 2017 at 5:18 pmThis might be my favorite look. You really did a great job combining the blue tones. Love the shirt touch look to – casual sporty! You have to treat yourself to some warm location to recharge like BALI! I think you will love it. I am here for the same reason. Need to recharge and take time for myself! If you need any tips just let me know! xoxo Elif

May 10, 2017 at 6:02 pmI can totally relate to that! Starting your own business and the constant struggle of making things work can be hectic! Although, the rewards and appreciation make all those efforts worth it. As for your FW plans, you are really lucky to attend shows in all those cities! Wish I could do the same :D. But now yeah, till the FW mess starts, simplicity is the key and you totally nailed it in this double denim look which feels so fresh and cool.
Wishing you a lovely day!

May 11, 2017 at 12:04 amI swear Thomas your posts are always hit the exact same situation I’m dealing with! I also feel that my life is way too hectic all the time. For real, in between blogging and studying at college I have no “me” time left. And while it might feel that blogging is not actually “a job” and I don’t do a typical 9-5 it’s still a lot of commitment and time involved! Yes it can get super hectic! Yes all I can think of right now is a vacation! But we will make it through brother – with the cutest smiles on our faces! #LetsDoIt

May 11, 2017 at 2:25 amHi Thomas
I know exactly what you mean. the habit of needing to escape from time to time. I still get envious of you when you get to go to all of this events tho. Some people especially who has a 3rd world country passport can’t leave whenever they please. They have to go through rigorous visa application so I guess people get jealous because you can go anytime, whenever and to wherever you need to be! So you are very lucky indeed. I also believe you are a torch of light to those who aspire to become you. Also, there’s no such thing as an easy job. What matter is your passion towards it and you are very passionate that’s why I admire your work and dedication!

May 13, 2017 at 4:02 amI remember my first time going to Stockholm s a kid and we actually stayed at a ship. I don’t remember if it was the Chapman but it kind of looks like it. We were on a school trip so all the kids stayed in this larger room with bunkbeds and had fun. Greece seems like a good idea! And then you can come visit me here in LA

May 15, 2017 at 7:41 pmYour casual looks always have so much life! I think you’re always so adorable, especially the way you crop your jeans or roll up your sleeves. There’s always some cool detail to notice when you style yourself. It’s unique, but totally you. I also love that you took the time to find a location that reminds you of getting away while talking about wanting to get away. It’s a great way to tie a little storytelling into the visuals. Such a great inspo for my own work!
