Like you know it’s been a really tough time for me with all that’s going on and not that things have calmed down, quite the contrary, I truly enjoy life right now. What’s changed? Well, there was a time a few weeks back when I forgot to reward myself. I keep doing things non stop, I’ve accomplished so much, but haven’t really sat down and reflected on it. Rewarding oneself can be done in so many ways, but for me it all comes down to actually realizing the importance of acknowledging my successes. I’ve mentioned it before, but I have a hard time living in the present and realizing what I’ve accomplished, but am always looking for the next big thing or already planning months ahead instead of enjoying the current moment.
So how do i reward myself? Well, there’s the instant reward in getting something materialistic to please your never ending urge for luxury. In my case this comes down to Gucci’s collab with Disney. FIrst came the Seabreeze collection with a sailor/pirate Donald Duck in the prints and I was… nah, semi impressed. Then came the tote with a Donald print on it and I checked it out and was “nah” about that one too. What I really wanted was the tee and thanks to Jalal at the Gucci store on New Bond Street in London I was able to finally get it as it was sold out. Like everywhere. He tipped me off that there was one released online (we have each other on WhatsApp, that’s what I call personal service) and now it’s mine. Yay to that!
That was my materialistic treat to myself to celebrate my achievements. The instant joy aside, your mental rewards are equally important and after having felt that my life was too busy to even have the time to meditate (then you know you’re too busy and an alarm bell should have went off a lot earlier), I finally am back to doing that twice a day for about 15 minutes each. It really does help me to wind down and cut off stress. There are a lot of great mindfulness and meditation guides on YouTube if you want to give it a try. What am I trying to saying here more than “yay me”?. Every time you accomplish something, make sure you treat yourself to something nice. It could be your favorite candy, a night at the movies or as in my case, a tee that I really, really, really wanted. Now I’m ready for new adventures and new accomplishments.
